· In 2007, King said, “Unfortunately, we have too many mosques in this country.”
· In early 2011, Rep. King implied that American Muslims are not “American” when it comes to protecting our nation during times of war.
False Statements
· In 2004, King said, “You could say that 80%, 85% of the mosques in this country are controlled by Islamic fundamentalists” and that average Muslims “are loyal,” but “don’t come forward, they don’t tell the police what they know. They won’t turn in their own.”
o King has never provided a scrap of documentation to back up this allegation.
o In February, 2011, Duke University and the University of North Carolina Tips from the Muslim American community provided the source of information that led to a terrorist plot being thwarted in 48 of 120 cases involving Muslim Americans.
o Top law enforcement officials such as FBI Director Robert Mueller and Sherriff Lee Baca, commander of the nation’s largest sheriff’s department and a board member of the National Sheriff’s Association, say Muslims support and cooperate with law enforcement.
