(SOUTHFIELD, MI, 8/6/12) — A representative of the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI) yesterday led prayer at an interfaith service in Detroit, Mich., in the wake of the deadly shooting that took place at a Sikh gurdwara in Oak Creek, Wis.
CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid extended condolences to the Sikh community throughout America and prayed that our nation heal from divisive and xenophobic rhetoric that has plagued our national discourse since the tragedy of 9/11.
“Yesterday’s shooting demonstrates that those who promulgate hate sow the seeds for violence in our society,” said CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid.
Walid also mentioned that a mosque burned down under suspicious circumstances early this morning in Joplin, MO.
